This reflection shares how my early search for guidance as a new Muslim led me to spiritual retreats rooted in traditional Islamic learning. These experiences offered structure, clarity, and community, deepening faith and civic engagement. Inspired by their impact, we now organize retreats to support Muslim youth with grounded faith, informed practice, and a strong sense of belonging.

In 2024, the Konak Institute’s exhibitions Hapet Vela and Udhët e Shkronjave helped highlight Albania’s Islamic literary and mystical traditions. They offered a fresh look at a cultural legacy that had long been overlooked.

At a major 2025 conference hosted by George Mason University’s Center for Islamic Studies, Besnik Sinani highlighted the Konak Institute’s work in preserving Albanian Islamic heritage and introduced the Museum of Muslim Life project. His participation underscored the urgent need for institutions that combine research, public engagement, and education to safeguard cultural identity for future generations.

The Konak Institute’s Icons of Opium exhibition at Kalo Gallery in Tirana sparked national media attention and public reflection on the legacy of communist-era religious suppression through powerful displays of archival propaganda. Through historical research and visual storytelling, the exhibition helped reignite vital conversations about memory, resilience, and the enduring importance of spiritual and cultural identity in Albania.
