Rifat Alili
Imam Dr. Rifat Alili serves as the Imam of the Albanian–American Islamic Center in Garfield, New Jersey, where he has played a central role in fostering religious life, community engagement, and intergenerational education within the Albanian Muslim diaspora. Dr. Alili received his foundational training in Islamic Theology in his native Skopje, where he developed a strong grounding in classical Islamic scholarship. He subsequently pursued a Master’s degree in International Relations at the City University of New York, expanding his expertise into the domains of global politics, diplomacy, and cross-cultural engagement. He later completed his doctoral studies in Philosophy through a joint program between the University of Skopje and the University of Munich, where his work engaged broader philosophical and intellectual traditions.
In addition to his scholarly formation, Dr. Alili is widely recognized as a distinguished community leader, particularly in the field of interfaith relations. He has been actively involved in building bridges between religious communities and contributing to constructive dialogue in pluralistic settings. His work extends into the field of education, where he serves as an educator and trainer for public school teachers in New York City, offering guidance on matters of faith, religious literacy, and cultural sensitivity.
At the Konak Institute, Dr. Alili serves as a member of the Board and contributes to the Institute’s educational program, where he plays an active role in overseeing the development of its forthcoming scholarship initiatives. Through these efforts, he supports the cultivation of future scholars and the advancement of humanities-based education within Albanian and broader transnational contexts.
Through his combined roles as an imam, scholar, educator, and institutional leader, Dr. Alili contributes to the cultivation of informed religious leadership and the promotion of mutual understanding across diverse communities.
